2022 Chevy Silverado Getting Multi-Function Tailgate

The six-function MultiPro tailgate, which was once exclusive to the GMC Sierra, is going to be available on the Chevy Silverado, the website GMTrucks reports. On the Silverado, the multi-function tailgate will be called the MultiFlex, and it will arrive on the 2022-model trucks, which are also set to get a refreshed look.

Since the MultiPro tailgate is standard on the GMC Sierra SLT, AT4, and Denali, the mechanically identical MultiFlex tailgate should be available on both the facelifted 2022 Silverado 1500 and the larger Silverado HD. Additionally, as with the Sierra, it should come standard on certain trims, such as the top-of-the-line High Country.

Some features of the multi-function tailgate include a secondary cutout in the middle of the tailgate, which on the GMC ends just below the GMC badge, that can be folded down to allow more standing space behind the truck. It also folds into a step to facilitate climbing into the bed. Additionally, the secondary cutout can be folded up to prevent longer loads from slipping out the back of the tailgate. It's also equipped with a weatherproof built-in Kicker audio system, USB port, and auxiliary input.

We ranked GMC's MultiPro tailgate as the best tailgate you can currently get, and we're excited to see it come equipped on the Chevy Silverado. We'll know more about the new Silverado trucks soon.
